Ashtanga Yoga ~ All levels welcome

This class is especially suitable for beginners. Ashtanga has the reputation of being a strong practice and yes, you will sweat and have a good work out, but I offer modifications and alignment tips that make this class accessible to all.

More advanced practitioners who would like to review their alignment during a led class are most welcome too and will appreciate the positive effect this class will have on their practice.

In this class you learn the Ashtanga Primary Series step by step. It’s a fixed sequence that is taught gradually starting with the classic Sun Salutation. Beginners will learn valuable alignment principles that are useful for many other yoga classes such as Vinyasa and Hatha.

Ashtanga yoga is also known as the system of yoga introduced to the Western world by the late Sri K. Pattabhi Jois (‘Guruji’) from Mysore, India. The approach is a sequencing of postures and focused breathing techniques. Ashtanga yoga helps to develop strength, flexibility, stamina and concentration. It is a dynamic practice, incorporating vinyasa (movement aligned with breath) and becomes a meditative flow.
